"The possibilities are limitless, yet none seem to resonate deeply within us."
What Shapes My Identity?
Is my identity shaped by my age, my job title, the family I come from, the land of my origin, or the pronoun I pick? Do I say who I am, or is it predetermined for me?
This is an exploration into the depths of your essence, where your identity transcends the ever-changing circumstances of the world, anchored instead in the unwavering truth of your being in Christ.
As a young person navigating this wild world, you've got to undergo the ultimate rite of passage: obtaining that brand-new ID! It's like a shiny pass to the amusement park of grown-up life (whose rides always seem a bit dull). It's like a game of social Jenga, figuring out where we fit in the grand puzzle of belonging, while hanging on by a thread!
Here's a delightful little nugget of wisdom that's both simple and profoundly meaningful!
The Truth About Truth
The truth is, we don't know the truth! At least, not when depending on our own understanding. Wasn't it said that thou shalt know the truth and the truth shall set thee free, and whomever the son sets free is free indeed! (John 8:32, 36). It is my prompt response today to free you from the shackles of ignorance that can lead to rejection, not just in interviews but in the test of life. (Hosea 4:6)
"Thou shalt know the truth and the truth shall set thee free, and whomever the son sets free is free indeed."— John 8:32, 36
Purpose in Our Bodies
I recently learnt that the purpose of a being is based on their body; for example, an angelic being has a celestial body built for a celestial purpose, and a human being has a human body formed for a human purpose. Okay, hold up a second. I am not talking about body positivity; no, you don't identify as figure 8 or type A.
Simply put, the manufactured good is always known by the manufacturer. See what I did there? (Genesis 1:31)
The Artisan Knows
For this reason, consider how a skilled artisan who crafts a magnificent, intricate piece of pottery is the only one who truly knows its intended purpose and original design. The artisan knows the specific clay used, the exact temperature of the kiln, the intended function (whether for holding water or simply for display), and the unique markings or signatures they inscribe. Similarly, when we seek to understand who we are and what our life is for, we turn to Christ, our Maker. (Isaiah 64: 8, Jeremiah 18:)
Remember, as Christians, that "Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular." (1 Corinthians 12:27) What is the purpose of this body, you may ask? Ephesians 2:10 says:
"For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."— Ephesians 2:10
Designed By the Creator
We find our identity and purpose uniquely in Christ because, as our Creator, He possesses the ultimate and most complete understanding of us, having designed and made us according to His will. This story of will is another interesting one. Do we actually have free will? Maybe we will cover it in another post. So yes, He alone knows the precise combination of our talents, passions, and experiences He placed within us, the purpose He had in mind when He formed us, and the unique imprint of His image He placed upon our souls. This level of intimate, first-hand knowledge-from our "creation date" to our eternal design-is the definitive source of our identity, which no one else can match, as it is based on the original data of creation rather than external observation or worldly opinion.
"This level of intimate, first-hand knowledge—from our 'creation date' to our eternal design—is the definitive source of our identity."
To You, Reader...
You are not a random mix of gifts and quirks.
You were handcrafted — intentionally, beautifully, and purposefully.
Everyone is created uniquely.
Everyone is special in their own way.
And Jesus? He knows exactly why He made you.
Until next month,
