'' Your Identity Can Never Be Apart From Me''

Eight (8) – for you numerology geeks, know this to mean new beginnings. A fresh start, so to speak. Out with the old, in with the new.

This whole month has been a rollercoaster of figuring out what “new” looks like. For me at least, it’s been just that.

But here’s the tension — when you don’t even fully know what the old is, it’s hard to understand what stepping into something “new” really means.

The enemy knows this. The one place he wars against the people of God is in our minds. If we let him, it’s easy for him to make it his personal basketball court, Devil’s workshop, or changing room — pick your figure of speech.

Like Chebet shared in the last blog, this journey of identity isn’t straightforward. I’ve wrestled with who this new me is supposed to be, and what story I’m meant to walk into.

And then I came across this thought:

Our minds have interacted with this physical world so much that we’ve lost touch with our higher selves — our spirit selves, that part of us that is one with God.

I have given so much stock to the flesh that I’ve forgotten who I truly am. Become bound by the idea that my identity is dictated by my physical self forgetting that the flesh is like a withering flower, here today, gone tomorrow. But we are one in spirit with God and my true self is in spirit aaaaand where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. Power is in knowing this.

That hit me. Because it reminded me of this truth:

Your identity can never be apart from Me. — Jesus

Lord help us but that’s the key! Knowing who you are by knowing Whose you are.

This Month at YML...

  • We launched our very own blog series on Identity leading up to the December drop.

  • We hit our first 100 followers on Instagram (win, win, win!).

  • We’re entering the last quarter of the year, with the December merch drop cooking hard.

What August Taught Us...

  1. Jesus loves you — and there’s nothing you can do about it.

  2. Violent prayers, violent faith, and violent boldness are the recipe for a rewritten story.

  3. Moves don’t have to be loud; the silent ones (the secret place ones!) are the ones that speak loudest.

To You, Reader...

Romans 12:2 NLT

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

Until next month,

Chebet & Bora
